How's about a special
international double feature?!
First
up is "The Turkish Star Trek".
Turkey has a proud history of stealing American
films and remaking them with no money and their
own unique set of production values. When they remade
Superman, Superman became a homemade doll dangling
on string in front of a black and white TV, and
when they remade Star Wars, Luke Skywalker fought
an army of Cookie Monsters on a field of trampolines.
Turkish remakes of films are confusing madness,
but invariably end up being twice as entertaining
as the originals. Turkish Star Trek continues this
cinematic tradition. In Turkey it’s called
Turist Omer Uzay Yolunda, which probably translates
literally to “Tragic Mistake.” Wait
‘til you see “Kirk” and “Spock”
in incredibly fake sets having incomprehensible
adventures. Turkish cinema takes an American classic,
turns it on its head and kicks the living crap out
of it. This film will be shown during the pot
luck dinner.

Our main feature
will be Caltiki, The Immortal Monster from
1959. It’s a truly international oddity. An
Italian movie set in Mexico, though filmed in Spain
and pawned off as being American, even in Italy!
It is the only '50s "monster on the rampage"
film made by the Italians and the best radioactive
blob movie ever! When explorers discover in Mayan
ruins a flesh-devouring, ever growing blob it makes
the one Steve McQueen once found seem affectionate.
Also: Yet another great
episode of Radar Men from
the Moon from 1951. Starring Commando
Cody flying through cosmos battling very mean aliens
with big guns.
