Ed
Wood's masterpiece "Bride of the Monster,"
starring Bela Lugosi and Tor Johnson, the Swedish
wrestling star, will be the feature film at this
month's Bad Film Society meeting at 6 p.m. Sunday,
November 17 at the Ashland Elks downstairs.
Bela Lugosi only got $1000 for this, his last speaking
role. He uses a kitchen colander helmet, an oscilloscope
and a photographic enlarger to carry out his nefarious
plans. "You will be soon as bick as a chiant!
De strent of tventy men," he muses happily
to one victim as he adjusts the photo enlarger.
"Or, like all de otters . . . det!" Huge,
blubbery Tor Johnson plays his mindless servant,
Lobo. The giant rubber octopus prop was stolen from
Republic Studios. They managed to lop one of the
tentacles off while stealing it and forgot to get
the motor that ran the tentacles, so the actors
had to wrap themselves up in them to simulate an
attack. Hilarious!
