Psych-Out
THE BAD FILM SOCIETY CELEBRATES THE SUMMER OF
LOVE 40 YEARS TOO LATE!
Far-Out, Man! Calling All Flower Children. Get out your love beads, bellbottoms
and patchouli oil! Exactly 40 years ago, hippies flocked to San Francisco to
Tune-In, Turn-On and Drop-Out for The Summer of Love. To celebrate, The Bad Film
Society is having A Love In; a groovy night of hippy-dippy revelry on Sunday,
June 24, 6PM, at the Ashland Elks downstairs crash pad.
The feature will be the ultimate Haight-Ashbury
exploitation film, Psych-Out. Now forgotten Susan
Strasberg got star billing, but then unknown actors
Jack Nicholson, Bruce Dern and Dean Stockwell will
blow your mind as crazed hippies! Psychedelic bands
The Seeds and The Strawberry Alarm Clock let it
all hang out. This was the only commercial film
to capture the Haight on location at a quintessential
moment in time. Unbelievably, American Bandstand’s
Dick Clark, trying to be “hep”, produced
this flick!
Also in the bill will be some outtasight shorts
including portions of The Hippie Temptation, an
ultra-rare CBS news program filmed also in Haight-Ashbury
with Harry Reasoner in 1967!
Wear your most outrageous hippie outfit for a
trippy costume contest. Let Your Freak Flag Fly!
Right On, Bro, Right On!

Also, don’t miss the fourth episode of the
1939 serial The Phantom
Creeps! Starring bad film favorite Bela Lugosi
as Dr. Zorka who has a
giant snarling robot, an invisibility belt, a z-ray
gun and mechanical
death spiders!
The festivities will begin with a potluck dinner
open to all members before the feature. |
